Is it safe for cats to eat bell peppers?

Last night my cat jumped on the counter while i was cooking and stole a slice of a red bell pepper. I chased after him to take it away and he was growling and hissing at me so i just let him eat it. He's not acting weird or anything but i was just wondering if it's safe for cats to eat red bell pepper.
I've tried to train him before but he's......special....
He's crazy and all over the place and i love him
