It is not horribly dangerous. You could also just take the 19 polk bus from Polk street about a half block from the lounge to the Civic Center Bart station. Fare is $2 ride is only about 7 minutes. Cab fare would probably run $7 plus tip.
If you plan on drinking and are not familiar with the area taking public transportation is worth the few bucks.
