Is Jacksonville Beach a nice area for a vacation?

We're thinking about going to Jacksonville Beach in April, what do you think? Is it a nice area, is it clean, safe, etc? There seems to be a lot of things in the area to do for tourists but most tourists to Florida usually go to other parts of the state. What do you think?
