My friend bet me that my dad's 2008 chevrolet silverado was only a half ton because it only has 2 leaf spring bars. I told him it's a 3/4 ton because, compared to my grandpa's 2006 chevrolet 1500 1/2 ton, my dad's has a 5.3 liter in it. My grandpa's is only a 4.8L. Also my dad's has bigger tires and sits visibly higher than my grandpa's. My dad's truck has a regular cab and bed, not extended and the bed isn't a short box.
The only other thing we could think of was that the GVW on my dads is 7000lbs, compared to a 6200lbs on my grandpas'. This led my grandpa to believe that my dad's could be what they call a heavy half ton??
