Is it better to buy a newer phone like the iphone 4 ( i hear the antenna problem is free of charge) or are there phones that are similar to the N900.
is nokia n900 too old to buy now?

Its not too old to buy. You can still find them places elsewhere 
But, the Iphone 4 has a handful of problems and even though its really cool and amazing maybe you should wait a while before actually buying it. 
Uh....a newer model isnt exactly the best choice especially if you just want to use your phone for calling purposes. But, if your a texting fan or omging' person the Kin is great because you can connect to facebook. Uh....if you are more of a person that posts a lot, listens to music, likes downloading crap and all, the Iphones are great and so is the VZ Android, 'Droid' dor short.
