Purple has always been a prominent color in the gay rights movement. It is even more prominent in bisexual culture, as it is a combination of blue (generally perceived to be a male color) and red or pink (generally perceived to be a female color).
But don't let ignorant people get to you. He shouldn't have said that, and he's the one with the problem. Wear purple if you want to. All colors have symbolism behind them. Wearing blue doesn't mean you're sad; wearing red doesn't mean you're angry...and wearing purple doesn't make you gay.
I suppose, in a stereotype, it is, because it looks like pink. Personally, though, I think purple looks really hot on guys. Just sayin'. Though honestly, anyone who calls you that is probably not worth anyone's time anyway.
No, but it was once the royal colour, perhaps someone thought you were a pair of queens.
/jk, sorry.
But in truth, imperial purple was reserved for the Emperors of Rome.
Red (and pink) used to be the masculine colour because it is a 'strong' colour, and blue was for girls (look at all the pictures of the virgin mary, she is always depicted wearing blue)
