Is sidekick a PDA or Smartphone?

My friend got confused about the difference between PDA and Smartphone.

I was trying to explain to him that PDA doesnt include Data plan and voice calling. I know PDA may cost more than Smartphone with 2 years contract. Just because PDA doesnt have any plan included and Smartphone does. Smartphone include texting, emailng, voice calling, internet browser, and many more. Can you please help my friend understand what i mean.
 
PDAs aren't even phones. Smartphones are basically the same thing but better, and they include a cellular service provider to do things such as data, texting, calling, etc. Haha your friend is wrong. :)
