Is the external and internal display light on my Motorola w385 supposed to stay on?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I just got the Motorola w385 today and the external display is always lit up along with the inside (i can see it through the sides of the phone). This really bothers me, and I can't seem to find a way to turn it off. Is it supposed to always stay on?
 
yes it is supposed to stay on mine doesnt turn off either it used to bother me too but i got over it
