Is the mic input mono or stereo ?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525.
Is the microphone jack on the front mono or stereo ? Does it even matter (if I insert a mono or stereo plug) ?
I can't find anything in the handbook. I want to know what kind of plug to use on a cable to record from an audio system.

Whether it is stereo or mono will be determined by the type of plug you insert. It will support both! A simple test will be to plug a standard headset into the port and speak into each earpiece and see if you get a recording from both... LOL, yes, a headset can be used as a mic so stop looking at my comment like it is crazy! :0)
