Is the reverse blade style a real form?

I am very interested in the martial arts. I have practiced Jeet Kun Do (practice is used loosely as actually "practicing" jeet kun do is difficult, considering its more of a philosophy rather than a technique) for many years and have been involved in several forms of weaponized combat such as nun-chaku, shuriken, chakram, and muay thai bo staffing for about 4 years. (I have alot of spare time) However, ive practiced any style concerning a long blade before. And being of particular interest is the reverse blade style i used to watch on that show when i was like 13 or something. Im 19 now so i dont know what it was called, but it seemed interesting and different. So was it a real technique? or just more movie magic type of technique? I suppose a normal more widely known for of katana art could be used, just using the reverse blade. Any insight would be helpfull

Hrm... I've never seen a katana with such a blade (legitimately, at least)... It's likely such a thing was modeled after a kubikiri tanto.

For the record, you can see such a tanto here:
