is the trucking business still decent despite the economic down tu?

After being in the military and multiple deployments I would like to see my country for once. I do, however, still have to feed the family and was wondering if the industry is still decent. I have a line on a nice mega sleeper KW so the family can ride now and then. We figure the separation on the road will be less stressful than deployments and less frequently. I mean five deployments in six years is fun.

I'm really not sure, but my dad is or should I say was in the trucking business and he had a contract with a company. They recently terminated his contract because there wasn't enough work. Before his got terminated, a lot of other truckers contracts were also getting terminated.
