...been lost due to...? ...the child sexual abuse scandal?

How many "priests" and "bishops" were not in a state of grace when they were ordained? For example...several years ago the former bishop of our diocese was outed as a pedophile, with his crime dating to before he became a bishop. If his ordination as bishop was then invalid because he was not in a state of grace, what about priests he ordained, are they priests? Masses those priests celebrate, have parishioners they served been to mass and received communion? Marriages performed by those priests, what about them?

Catholics believe in the Apostolic Succession through laying on of hands in ordination by bishops in the Succession, but are there countless bishops and priests who are not really validly ordained? And how many centuries has this been going on? Has Apostolic Succession been lost a long time ago?
