Is there a meaning to smelling fresh flowers as a premonition to death?

Last Saturday I woke up at 2 a.m. I got up to use the restroom. When I walked into the hall I was over come with the scent of fresh flowers. There was nothing to cause this scent. There were no flowers, candles or air freshener. I wasn't wearing perfume. When walked back out it was gone. Like it was never there. Nothing lingered. I was really obsessed with the event and I googled it.you There seemed to be different meanings. Like a visit from someone who has recently passed, or is about to pass to visits from the Virgin Mary. I was not drunk or high. However, today I found out that a friend of mine passed 2 days ago. We were connected by a common goal in our lives. I feel that it was him letting me know that he was leaving this Earth and to keep doing his good work. Has anyone had this happen to them? Do you believe that such contact is possible? This is a serious question and I am feeling very sad. He was a wonderful man who touched the lives of many people.
Is anyone out there?
