Is there any significance to the crescent moon and Venus being so close together?

I never saw that b4 in my life! it looks very creepy cause of all the mayan and Biblical prophecy and also it looks like the flag of Iran whcih makes it look even more creepy. Can a legit astronomer explain how common or uncommon this is and if and how it will affect the earth. Its even more creepy with all the talk of potential 2012 events regarding planet X and other celestial events like planet alignment effecting a possible affect on the Earth's magnetism leading 2 a polar shift that are supposed 2 take place in and leading up to 2012

It happens every 18 months or so, when Venus catches up to the Earth as they both orbit the sun.

And it happened December 30 2008 and this past January 28. And on November 30 2008 both Jupiter and Venus appeared near the crescent moon.
This has no effect on the Earth - if it did, we would have noticed it by now (people have been watching Venus since prehistoric times).
It is simply the apparent proximity of the moon and Venus in our sky from our point of view.

By the way, planetary alignments can't do anything to the Earth (even if a planetary alignment could occur) - in 1982 all the planets in our solar system were on the same side of the sun (about as close to alignment as they get) and nothing happened.
Pole shifts take thousands of years of NOTICEABLE changes before they can occur - if our magnetic field continues in its current trend, the poles will shift around AD 3500.

No significance beyond it looks very nice.
Galileo was first to see Venus in detail in his telescope 399-1/2 years ago. He said it has phases like the Moon. That proved Copernicus right and Ptolemy wrong about how the Earth was in the Solar System.
If you wait long enough, you will see many things in the sky that are unusual, but not prophecy or creepy talk of impending doom. Wake up and use your brain for a change.
