I would think that it would be the glass. When I was a kid and we went camping, we had a window in the back of the truck. You could tell something was wrong with the window, but didn't know for sure. When it was lifted, it all fell out as you described. Kids threw rocks at it while they were walking buy and it happened to put a small hole in it and when gravity took over, it all fell out.It could have been anything. I hope you called the cops? I hope they get caught.
