Is there anyway to avoid being oppressed by the devil?

I officially gave my life to Christ back in October 2010 and ever since then, all the devil has been doing is troubling my spirit. I need to know if there is any way to avoid being oppressed by the devil. I am not looking for rituals. I am more looking for biblical reference and guidance. Thanks in advance.
