Is this rumor true: Did Gary Gygax sell his soul to the Devil so that D&D would be

successful? My uncle told me that once when I was 15. I played that very night.
 
The Devil should have given him a protection spell against TSR's corporate board, which booted him out, if I remember correctly.

Sold his soul to the Devil? Nah. Gary created a fun game that gave people a chance to embark upon fantasy adventures requiring imagination and creativity. That's why it sold well.
