Is this too cliche for a story concept?
So, I love the whole vampire theme in books but I think it's too overused, if you know what I mean, and I'm really into fantasy types of books. So.. .. I came up with my own mythical creature race. I call them Castors (Or the Dux). They are witches of a certain type of magic, not just a variety. On their fifteenth birthday, their blood turns a shade and that shade determines what branch of magic they will recede into (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, White). From there they go to school and learn to use this magic. Each branch has a specific power [Red = Combat, Orange = Idea, Yellow = Psionics, Green = Elements, Blue = Charms, Purple = Control, White = Healing]. But alas, each race must have a counterpart. Soo I created the 'Eversors' (It means 'Destroyer' in Latin). They are Castors who have turned to dark magic to pass by life. Anyways, in the story, vampire myths are created based off them so they are similar and aren't in many ways. First off, they don't drink blood. They are, quite literally, soul suckers. They feed off the energy, the essence, of other people: It gives them strength, power, life, and (of course) immortality. These souls remain trapped inside them while the body, whilst not dead, cannot live. The people remain emotionless, which is why many eversors kill them out of some remorse. They are masters of death, symbols of darkness and mist to all forms of life. But they can be killed, even if they are immortal. These killings result in the releasing of souls into bodies, both alive and dead (The dead don't come back to life). Ways they can be killed are by burning and by a long, silver sword used by Castors called a Luxor. It contains a portion of each shade of blood and can contain the soul of the eversor inside itself once stabbed in the heart. But eversors can't be decapitated: that results in prison for Castors. It rids all the souls inside, never giving peace to those bodies left out. So, i can't give away any more than that. I've finished my first book and am onto my second and third (i know the entire premise). Do you think this is a good idea for a book, or do you think it won't sell?
