Is Wizard's first Rule too gory to read?

My friend has recommended that i read it, and my school had it on a reading list last year so I'm thinking it will be ok, but i have read some amazon reviews and it seems in terms of the amount of sex and violence, rape etc. it can get quite heavy?

Please, I'm not a 2 year-old so i can deal with reading this, but i read for enjoyment and so someone being tormented for like 200 pages is really not my thing lol.

So to people who have read, what is your opinion?
 
read it anyway...you can always put it down if it's real nasty.
but i've heard it's not too bad.
 
Its a Mystical/Adventure type of a book. I'm honestly not really into this type of genre but i've read the book and enjoyed it. They have a tv series based on it called "legend of the seeker".
