I've never been hunting before, and I want to know how hunting works legally?

I looked up the hunting seasons, and it looks like they're only 30 days long. Is it 30 days on/ 30 days off or can you only hunt 30 days out of the year?

Also what are the rules on where you can hunt? Do you have to go to a game reserve and pay to get in, or can you just venture off into the wilderness?

Are there areas that would be good for hunting that are closed off for hunting or anything like that?

There should be a Game and Fish department for the state you live in. They will have all the rules and regs for where you live. In Az, for example, there is only a week to hunt a specific animal, deer perhaps, in a specific area. Also with a specific weapon. (White tail in area "a" with bow and arrow is this week, with a riffle in area "a" is the next week). You have to put your name in a drawing for a license for that area. If you don't get drawn, you don't get to hunt. If you do, season is usually like one week and that's the only time you can go all year.
