Japan PSP2000slim problem connecting a headset and mic with remote?

I have Japan PSP 2000 slim that I bought brandnew from philippines, it came with headsets and remote...Now I bought a headset and mic here from canada and connected it through the remote into the psp, I tried to use it on skype but somehow the mic won't work buy the headphones does.........Please help explain why this won't work and what do I did?
