My husband is half Japanese and I like to attempt to make Japanese dishes from time to time. I have several that call for pickled plums or pickled plum paste. I've looked at different international markets and can not find it. Finally, I asked and they called a much older gentleman over to help me. He led me to the salted plum brine. He said it's the same thing and that salted and pickled are translated the same. Is this correct? Are they the same or will I mess up the dishes if I try to use the salted plum instead of the pickled?
