I own a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L and it recently was having some problems so we got it checked out and it needs a new torque converter. the mechanic said it would cost $1,000 is this a reasonable price for a job like this or is he trying to rip us off?
Well the problem is the transmission has to come all the way out to change the torque converter... then the torque converter adds a couple hundred... I'd say yeah $1000 is about right, but it never hurts to shop around.
have u checked to make sure it isnt low on fluid and add some first? that price isnt out of the relm of possibillity because the trans needs to be removed and if it is 4x4 it could be move work then the 4x2. always get someone else to look at something as serious as that man. trust me. i am a mechanic in south florida and i need a job bad if anyone can help me please do we all need to help each other as much as we can in these trying times. my god bless u all. good luck to u. oh and make sure the truck is worth spending th money on case i have looked at two of those in the last month and done 500 $ of work on each and then they went to the junkyard usually when something as major as that goes other things r not far behind man!!
1000 is not a bad price overall, probably around 450 labour and the rest is the part, if you dont trust the guy get a second opinion but it sounds good to me.
