How so? Well, the born-again Texas Rangers slugger said that he had a conversation with God and was told he'd hit a two-run homer to give the Rangers their last lead of the night. That's exactly what happened as Hamilton hit his first home run of the postseason before the Rangers ultimately fell 10-9 to the St. Louis Cardinals in Thursday night's wild World Series Game 6.
Hamilton said he knew people would be skeptical about his revelation, but he's never been shy about sharing the impact of his faith as he continues his battle against drug addiction. So how did the whole thing work? If Hamilton knew about the home run, why didn't he know about Lance Berkman's tying RBI in the bottom half of the inning or David Freese's game-winning homer in the 11th? Why didn't God clue him in on those hits, too?
"He said, 'You haven't hit one in a while and this is the time you're going to,'" Hamilton told reporters after the game. "He didn't say, 'You're going to hit it and you're going to win.'"
Ah, well there you go. Hamilton said he was completely at peace during his at-bat, so that probably went a long way in overcoming his sports hernia to hit a ball that far.
With Game 7 scheduled for Friday night, though, am I out of line in hoping that I don't receive a similar prediction from the big commissioner in the sky? If not, then I'd like to use this Big League Stew blog post to send Him a request.
