Just watching Beatles film Help. Humor is really forced & pathetic. It feels so...

...like an amateur film. If it? wasn't The Beatles it'd be ignored. Plus, for George & the rest's interests in Eastern mysticism, the film is very rascist and stereotyping, with white actors playing Indians and Eastern mysticism presented as foolish. I like The Beatles, but why is this film liked?
Thank you for answering! Still wondering, The Beatles were taken with Eastern Mysticism, Ravi Shankar etc, so how could they justify this BNP cartoon? Did they apologise for it later?

Course it is.. it was over 40 years ago it was a different place then..

Black and White minsterels where whites dressed up as blacks.. I love the film.. it shows a way of life that has passed by..

Try looking at things like on the buses, alf garnet programmes, that was how the world was and racist remarks were not really an issue then.. well not to the people who were calling it.. the world was not politically correct..

We are in a new society, where this sort of thing is now not acceptable.

before i answer this question i need to correct something;it was ironically because of help that the beatles(well george anyway)took up an interest in all things indian.now as for the movie itself:it's an ok film, not as good as a hard day's night, but what is.the movie at times felt like it was being made by kids who were showing off their new toys(ie the increased budget)by doing things like going on location to the bahamas and to austria to ski.btw part of the reason they went to the bahamas in the 1st place was as part of their accountants plan to dodge the taxman.another slight problem was making ringo the focus of the movie.nothing against ringo, but if i'm watching a beatles movie then i want the focus to be on the beatles and not on one of their members.you want to make a movie about ringo, then fine however just do the movie with ringo and ringo only.now as to why help is liked:there are some funny moments in it,the beatles(duh!),and the main reason why almost every beatles movie is like the music.

back in the day my sister bought Anything that had to do with new kids on the block and im assuming my mom wouldve done the same thing with the beatles...

same thing with hannah montana merch...

Well, first of all, everyone KNOWS it is amateur and forced. That is the charm of it. You're taking it way too seriously.

Secondly, it is almost universally agreed upon that Help! is not as good as their first film. So it is not like people think it was Oscar-worthy or anything.

Thirdly, the film is over forty years old. You are applying 21st century post-modern views of "racism" to a time where people did not understand race in that way.

Fourthly, it is JUST A COMEDY. It is not serious whatsoever. So criticizing it for being "racist" is plain silly.

All that said, you're right: if The Beatles were not in it, no one would care about it. In fact, it never would have been made. People like it because they are in it. Period. My question then is this: so what?

I think it was liked at the time because of the Beatles only, it was a cash cow.

If you watch any of their other films you will see that that forced humour is the style of them all.

In interviews they always joked and had a laugh, soo I think this was a joke itself, the guys are being stiff lipped on purpose.

As for the ideas of racism, this was the 60's and people were more racist than now but it was accepted.
