The Sacramento Kings are one of the worst teams in the NBA — if not the worst. However, that didn’t stop them from going into Los Angeles and beating the two-time defending champions on Friday night. With a handful of young players leading the way, the Kings defeated the Lakers by a final score of 100-95.

Rookie bigman DeMarcus Cousins was the star of the game, finishing with 27 points, ten rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks in 32 minutes of action. The Kings also got 20 points and eight rebounds from Omri Casspi.

“Obviously they’re the best team in the league,” said Casspi, ” they’re the champions — and it feels good.”

The Lakers were led by Kobe Bryant’s 38 points and seven assists. In the first quarter of the game, Kobe Bryant passed Hakeem Olajuwon on the all-time NBA scoring list. Unfortunately for the Lakers and their home fans, that was the only highlight of the night.

With the loss, the Lakers drop 6.5 games behind the San Antonio Spurs for first place in the Western Conference. The win gave the Kings a two-game lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves for the worst record in the West.
