The purpose of this lab is to identify the colour of flame different types of metals held within certain compounds create when they are held above a Bunsen burner. Eleven separate compounds will be placed over a Bunsen burner at separate times. The flame colour will be documented as this procedure occurs, and the type of metal within the compound, will be linked to the colour of flame it produces. Two unknown types of metal will be determined by examining the colour of the flame, and comparing it to the known flame colours and types of metal.
