In one of the biggest upsets in recent memory, the Los Angeles Lakers are now down 0-3 against the Dallas Mavericks after the Mavs won Game 3 by a final score of 98-92. Going into this series, nobody thought the Mavs had a chance. Dallas has a playoff history of choking, while these Lakers have shown their clutchness on their way to winning the last two NBA championships.

How are the Mavs beating the Lakers? It starts with Dirk Nowitzki. The German superstar had 32 points and nine rebounds in Game 3, while hitting 12-of-19 shot from the field, 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point line and all four of his free throws. Against a big, strong frontline, Nowitzki’s mobility and shooting ability causes massive issues for the Lakers.

The Mavs also got huge production off the bench. Jason Terry had 23 points, while Peja Stojakovic had 15 points — including 11 pivotal points in the fourth quarter.

As for the Lakers, Kobe Bryant was surprisingly quiet. He shot only 16 times on his way to 17 points. The Lakers were led by Andrew Bynum’s 21 points and ten rebounds.

Why are the Lakers struggling? Could it be that Pau Gasol got dumped by Silvia (pictures), his girlfriend? It seems more and more plausible.

On Sunday, the Mavs will try to sweep the Lakers. Stunning, to say the least.
