I am considering buying a Sony laptop, particularly from FW series, in which I will add a Blu-ray drive. I have some GENERAL questions, though primarily Sony FW laptop owners’ and then secondarily any Sony laptop owners’ comments will be highly appreciated. I would like to hear also from laptop owners from other manufacturers to see whether there are industry standards regarding the below issues.
REGION CODING related questions:
1) I know that laptop DVD drives would give you the opportunity to change the region coding for a couple of times before setting itself to a specific region. Does this go the same for Blu-ray titles?
2) If your answer is yes, how many times am I allowed to do this? How many does Sony allow in particular? (I assume it would be the same for all Blu-ray drives used in Sony laptops)
3) Are the region settings for DVDs and Blu-ray’s independent from each other? For example, if I want to watch a region b Blu-ray disc and have to change my region settings, would it also change the DVD region from region 1 to region 2?
AUDIO related questions:
4) When I connect a laptop via HDMI to my A/V receiver, is it going to transfer audio as well? (in a forum a Sony user says no.)
5) If not, is there a way to transfer audio while transferring video via HDMI? (optical cable or something)
6) If I successfully transfer audio to the receiver, am I going to benefit from the uncompressed and HD audio available on most Blu-ray discs?
If you say “no” to any of the above questions, I am open to hear other-way-arounds, if any, be it legit or not.
I will really appreicate if you can answer to my questions respectively (in order for you not to forget to reply / miss any question)
Thanks!
