Abell 1835 in the Virgo constellation is one of the most distant galaxies ever observed. It was created when the Universe was merely 470 million years young, that is, barely 3 percent of its current age.

Abell 1835 is 13,230 million light-years away or 77 billion trillion miles

Light travels at 11.1 million miles per hour.

So to travel from Abell 1835 to Earth would take

6,958,471,108,319,644 hours

289,936,296,179,985 days

794,346,016,931 years

794 Billion years!!!! What? Could some one tell me where I’m going wrong here. I’d want to be able to explain this to kids, so if you could tell me in kid language I’d be really grateful

THANKS!!!
Zeta thanks for your imput but

13.2B is the same as is 13,230 million

13,230 million years. A light year is the distance light travels in a year. So if something is one light year away. We are seeing it as it was a year ago. Pretty wild how far away that is, huh?

794,346,016,931 years

^^Here is your mistake^^ If it is 13.2 billion light YEARS away, then light will take 13.2 billion YEARS to make the journey.... (Hence the name "LIGHT YEAR")

Think this is your mistake => "Abell 1835 is 13,230 million light-years away" It's actually 13.2 BILLION light years.

you said that it was 13,230 million light years away. so it will take 13,230 million years for light to reach earth.

13,230 million is 13,230,000,000 which is 13.2 billion. so light will take 13.2 billion years to reach earth.

Amal M
