LG shine won't read SIM card?

I got a used LG shine ( old version) on ebay, and it worked great for a few months then one day it stopped reading the SIM card. I tried the SIM on some other phones and it worked, so it's not the actual card. It did it a couple of times, and when I would turn the phone off and turn it back on it would read it, but now it doesn't at all. Any advice on what to do? Can it be fixed?
