like, people now put in LOL just to add it in. Even if it wasn't funny. or like a way to close out a text conversation, someone puts LOL.
I'm usually laughing when I put "haha" as well. I think LOL is so overused now and it's used for non-necessary means
OH yea, I use it in sarcastic situations. the 2nd poster answered it dead on

Anyone that really laughs when typing "LOL" needs mental help. I just put "LOL" when something funny has been said, but I never "laugh out loud." I usually type "haha!" when I'm actually laughing.

i think it has, i've had alot of conversations in which i'll be talking talking about something extremely serious and the person will just reply LOL a million times during it.

to me:

lol or haha = acknowledgement of something having at least some slight humor or entertainment in it. May not have actually laughed, but maybe smiled or chuckled in my head. Also use it to put a light hearted tone to my message ( like if I said " I'm such a failure lol", you would know I'm laughing about it or having light hearted humor at myself, and I'm not actually feeling negative).

lmao = chuckling

LOL = legitimately laughed at something

LMAO = Laughed hard at something

xD = Laughed realllly hard at something and is something I probably will laugh about an hour or so after it's said. This smiley gets used rarely, but when it is, you know I am laughing.

Yes, I agree. It means laugh out loud. Now it can mean...what was funny, just kidding or anything else. I guess LOL now means that the previous statement was meant as sarcasm. If someone actually makes me LOL I now feel the need to say "you just made me laugh out loud"

Funny how our slang evolves
