Even under the new proposals (protectionism and all trade to go through Britain) the tax burden on the colonials was less than the tax burden for people in Britain. As for making money for the Crown, that was why the Crown granted settlement rights at all, rather than going for the French model as used in Canada.</p></blockquote><p></p>
