We all see self-defense everywhere, movies, books, online, practice with our friends, especially with knife. I was just wondering, is there a way to learn holding a knife? Because holding a knife (a weapon) should be advantage not disadvantage. They made it look like a disadvantage in combat. It looks like your enemy can beat you whatever you do with knife. Even if you trow it on him, he will dodge it... :D Just wondering if there is any material on mastering a knife.

Kali and Silat both teach good knife techniques. A lot of Martial arts teach defenses against the knife attack, but make no mistake whatsoever about it, you are at an incredible disadvantage when it comes to taking on an opponent who has a knife and you have just your hands. My kali instructor broke it down to like this-The guy with the knife is hurting you every time he touches you, and that is going to affect the way you fight. Even a small cut could cause enough of a pause to allow him to stab you in the heart. The best trained empty hand fighter in the world is still at a disadvantage to an armed assailant. That said, I would rather give myself every chance possible to come away unharmed, or at least alive." A lot of the instructor that do set patterns and such would not be terribly willing to put those skills to the test in a fight where the opponent could do whatever he wanted with a real knife, understandably so. There is a company, I think it is called shockknife, that makes knives that have a dull, but charged blade, sort of like a stun gun or cattle prod. The low level shock you receive from it causes pain and muscle spasming that simulates a cut and allows for better, more realistic training. A good Kali or Silat program that incorporates that technology would give you probably the best knife training available.
