mazda 3 for a teen driver?

According to my family, and instructor I am an exeptional driver for a beginner, and i have the money so i want to get a car. I have a monte carlo which im going to sell. I am looking at Mazda 3's preferably a 2006-08 or a 2010. Any opinons? are they good on gas, fun, safe, etc.?

Yes they are good on gas, but this interferes with the car being 'fun' because of the small engine, I think they are underpowered, but if you get the mazdaspeed 3 that one is a lot more fun than the standard one
