Gunshots from an attack on police outside Corona Stadium in Torreon, Mexico during Saturday night's Primera Division match between Santos Laguna and Morelia resulted in the game being abandoned before halftime.

Players and fans fled for cover in the 40th minute of the match when they first heard the shots, which were initially thought to be coming from inside the stadium. One commentator for Telefutura thought they were fireworks at first.

From the AP:

Torreon police and local soccer officials said the attack left one police officer injured, but no one was hurt inside the stadium.

Gunmen opened fire on a police patrol near the stadium, said Fernando Olivas, the regional delegate for Coahuila state's attorney general's office.

"The public security vehicle was attacked by unidentified gunmen outside TSM and the preliminary information we have is that one policeman was injured," Olivas told Milenio TV.

This is reportedly the first Primera match to be abandoned because of drug violence. Torreon has been the site of drug wars between the Sinaloa and Zetas cartels, though.
