minimum distance of 40" lcd tv?

wat is the minimum distance of 40" lcd from tv to seat.I have drawing room of 8 ft
 
I believe my 42 inch is 12 feet, i don't have my users manual here at work. I doesn't make that much difference sitting closer to it especially if watching HUD programming.
