One of my cats does NOT handle moving well. We found this out the hard way. The first time we moved he stayed in the corner for 3 days and wouldn't let anyone touch him without biting them. I know it's not the same situation but this is what we do to make him at ease. We put him in a cat carrier with some of his favorite blankets. Or if you don't have any of those, use something he's laid on recently, something to remind him of home. When you get there, just set down the carrier and in an hour or two open the door. Let him come out in his own time. I was also so paronoid about letting him outside for the first time. I went and had a collar made just in case, I also set his favorite blankets outside on the porch. Low and behold, he came back the next day. I've also heard that if you put butter on their paws it creates a trail and they will find their way home. Cats are smart creatures, I am sure he will be fine. I would let him call down and get use to the house before you let him outside though. All the best of luck!
