Moving from San Diego to New York?

So I've had a mindset for about two years now that I want to move to New York City to pursue a career and education in fashion. I made my first visit there a couple of weeks ago and it was a BIG culture shock. Some things I didn't like about the city are starting to make me have second thoughts... like the freezing weather for instance. I've never experienced weather like that here in San Diego. But then again I know that if I want to have a successful career in fashion New York is the place to be. San Diego will get you no where in fashion. And when I was in New York visiting I heard several people talking about how much they wish they could live in San Diego.... Would I be crazy to move to New York and leave San Diego?
