[QUOTE="shawnekowalczyk, post: 2547706, member: 869409"] I will try and keep this short. I have read a lot of posts already, but still haven't found the information I am looking for. I will be working at Bolling AFB in Oct. I want a commute that is no longer than 1 hour. If the commute is close to an hour, I would more than certainly want to ride the train to work (I would get off at Anacostia and catch a bus to Bolling). Budget is 1,880/month w/utilites/taxes/insurance (dependent BAH rate) - so I think that puts me somewhere in the ballpark of a $250K-$280K house. I would prefer 3 bed/2 bath and even a yard if possible. I have been looking at neighborhood scout to get some good data. I don't want high crime and I want descent schools (have a 3 year old). Here are some areas that may work. Please let me know what you think, or any places I should scratch/add.. Honestly, I would much rather live in VA, but I think I am going to have a hard time finding something that will meet my requirements. I might be able to give up 1 or 2 requirements listed above, but I would rather not.. Base housing is my LAST resort (a walk to work wouldn't be that bad).. According to Neighborhood Scout: Places with low crime: Bowie, MD (got a score of 34/100 for schools) Glenarden, MD Riverdale, MD Calvert County seems great, but may be too far and not affordable Anything in MD directly to the North of DC w/ low crime (Bethesda, Potomac) seems like it wouldn't be a good place to live because I would have to drive through DC Acokeek was nice at first until I saw that the schools had very bad ratings..
