Okay, so I just bought a Dynex sound card (Dynex is Best Buy brand FYI) for a cheap fix while I build a new comp, because it was the only card >$150 with a Digital Optical Output spot, so I got it home and installed it and everything and not only did I not get Dolby Digital (Not surprised) i didn't even get 5.1 ~ Not even fake 5.1 with just dual-sided stereo, I only got Stereo sound; FL, FR speakers... SO! I'm wondering A) If anyone has used this card before: DX-SC51~ Is the generic like $30 sound card from BestBuy and if so if they managed to solve this issue... My second part of it (B, if you will) is, I have an older Sound Blaster! Live 24 bit card that I've used for a couple years that I love, and it has nice sound and a Digital Output slot (However, it is a PC speaker cable -> digital coaxial input) adapter, so A) I'm not sure if it even supports real 5.1, it can probably make fake 5.1, and B) Can Digital Coaxial cable carry the actual 5.1 surround sound? If it can, couldn't I just get a Coaxial to Optical adapter and try that? I ask all this because it's getting quite expensive for me to keep going back to Best Buy to get the wrong things. `bout to just order one from NewEgg and call it quits, but even then I don't know if it supports true Dolby or not. Thanks for any suggestions/help.
