A Dozen Xbox 360s, One Man's Tale of Woe

I guess I don't quite understand what you people think the alternative should be.
We agree the 360 hardware is crap and needs to be fixed. So what? Are you asking us to boycott in the meantime? Stop replacing our faulty systems? Buy PS3s? Put someone's head on a stake?
I just don't get it. I'm confident MS is doing what they can to fix the core problem, because anything else would continue to cost them millions that they can't afford to lose.
I'm also confident they're not going to magically cancel my warranty unless I wipe my butt with it and mail it to them with a little note that says "Happy Easter!"
So, what?
Do you just want us to publicly announce that we're angry? I'm angry.
Are you happy? Can I go back to playing my 360 while it works, or do I need to take up the cause like some kind of goddamned activist?

Reggie Unflappable In Face Of Manhunt 2 Maelstorm

I've seen many comments stating the obvious age difference between M and AO, and reminding us the subtle 1 year difference, but I don't think that's what the big deal is about an AO game. It's more about the stigma surrounding what it entails being an AO game as opposed to an M game.
Now, I could go on to compare this to pornography vs. R rated movies, but at this point that's not really necessary and I don't necessarily agree that violence is 'pornographic' but it's gotta be obvious to some folks that Manhunt 2 was so violent that it was extremely offensive, and that's why it warranted an AO rating over M. I'm sure the ESRB knew exactly what that rating would mean to the sales / manufacturing / etc of the game, and I'm sure they did it on purpose because the content was just that brutal. I don't think they sat there and said "I'd let an 18 year old play this, but hell if I let a 17 year old."
Personally, I'm all for extremely violent video games, I enjoy my dose of gore... but until we really see the game, we won't know if it was a justified rating or not

Phil Harrison on Losing Exclusives

Of course he's right about the difference between first- and third-party games. The average gamer (which none of us are) doesn't care whether it's a first- or third-party game if they already own the console. All they care about is if it's fun.
Notice that I explicitly said "already own the console". That's the key. Once you've taken the plunge for the hardware then the software becomes easier. What's not easy is to sell somebody on a piece of hardware which is (a) the most expensive console out there and (b) has few truly "exclusive" games on it. If a new consumer can get nearly the same experience on a $400 console as they can on a $600 console, then the choice is clear and Sony is left in the cold.
I think the PS3 is not living up to Sony's expectations in the marketplace. I also think it will do fine once the games start rolling. For me, the real story is how Sony went from absolute 100% dominance of the console market with the PS2 down to the position they are today - fighting to catch up with Microsoft and their one-year head start. I'm also struck by the amazing similarities between Sony and the PS3 and Nintendo with their N64.
To me, that's the real story of this generation.

Zelda Director Says Wii Won't Alienate Hardcore

So... Microsoft made a system for hardcores that alienates casuals.
Nintendo made a system that attracts casuals yet alienates hardcores.
Lastly, Sony made a system with a pricetag that alienates most.
Miss anything?
