...terms of culture & religion? I am Pakistani American. I immigrated here to America when I was 12. I have lived in America for 11 years now. I however miss certain things about Pakistan, & have always kept in touch with my Pakistani roots. I am a blend of America and Pakistan now, I try to take positives of both cultures.

I do not drink, smoke, eat pork, gamble or have pre-marital sex: all of those things. I pray 5 times a day. But I do appreciate the fact that America is a more open society in terms of male-female interaction. I am a moderate Muslim, but I believe there is nothing wrong with intimate friendships if there is no potential for promiscuous behavior. This is where I differ with conservative Pakistani culture and parents: they believe intimate friendships between guys and girls ALWAYS lead to promiscuous behavior. I have an intimate group of friends in Pakistan, but I feel like our group is always frowned upon by the society whenever I visit them. In America, everyone thinks Pakistanis are terrorists/extremists, which isn't true. I feel like I'm not accepted by either the Pakistani or American society because I have refused to completely adapt to either, and it disheartens me sometimes why things just can't be normal.
