my 3g itouch 4.2.1 won't go into dfu mode! I want best answers!?

i have a ipod touch 3genaration 4.2.1 and it wont go into dfu mode. im using redsn0w to jailbreak my itouch and when im on the "put your itouch into dfu mode." I follow the simple steps and it stays on the apple logo and it wont go black. then it says "no device detected!!! Can someone help me!!!! D:
