my 95 buick won't shift into gear until it is warm?

a couple of years ago my buick developed this quirk. when i start it up in the morning, if i try to put it in drive or even reverse right away, it will not shift into gear. usually takes about ten minutes, then everything is fine. the transmission doesn't slip or anything. just won't go till she's warm. if she's been driven recently, within the last few hours and is warm, she's just fine. anyone have any ideas? she's got about 159k miles. thanks
 
ckeck your fluid if its good then see if your tranny has a modulator on it sometimes the line slips off
