If it is a Knocking noise I'm sorry to say that the car might I say might have internal engine damage. Less noise at idle because Lack of oil getting pumped to proper places.
i recently bought a 2004 audi a8 and the engine has this knocking noise. It only makes the noise at idle. once i hit the gas, the noise disapears. besides the engine knocking noise, the car works good.
is there anything i can do to make that noise disappear? i heard changing the oil will help out, but what should i really do?
thanks for help in advance.
here is the video of the noise.
You can start by reading the owner's manual. Audi cars MUST have oil that meets specification 502/505, or damage can occur. These engines are special because they have piston squirters in them. Chances are you have noisy lifters from improper oil usage. NO VALVOLINE!! EVER! You can use a good de-sludging chemical, like SEAFOAM or Amsoil Crankcase Cleaner. Then use one of the PROPER oils like Mobil One 0W-40, ELF, Pennzoil Ultra, Amsoil, Pentosin, Lubro-Moly/ These oils will continue to clean as you drive. ALSO check your crankcase ventilation hoses, as they corrupt with improper oil usage as well. Clean out your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. then ENJOY THE RIDE!!!
