My Bittorrent clients aren't working Help?

Every time i try to download it keeps saying connection error (timeout) I am not very computer smart so can someone plz give me sum steps to fix this problem?

More often than not it's a firewall issue, go to the control panel and turn off your firewall, then restart your bit client.
