my car has lost all power and loads of smoke?

i was driving last night and my car seemed to be a little jumpy when staying at the same speed after about half hours driving i came off a roundabout and when i went to go into 4th and 5th gear the car was completly dead no power at all this stayed the same for about a mile then things seemed ok this morning i then went driving for about twenty miles with no problems but then i done another trip and the car died out again i couldnt go above 20mph in any gear and the smoke coming out was unreal any ideas of whats wrong ?

definitely you need to change the piston rings ASAP.....good luck it is a pricey endeavor
