My cd/dvd rom drive disappeared and nothing has been able to get it back,...

...how do i fix this? It disappeared out of nowhere and I deleted upper and lower filters, system restored and nothing has worked. It doesn't say anything is wrong with the computer in the device manager, but instead when I use iTunes or win. media player it says to install or reconnect the burner and restart the player. My laptop is a HP Pavillion dv9000
