my chickens peck at table scraps, but isnt that interested?

i got chickens yesterday and put some fruit/vege in their coop. --banana, apple, strawberry, lettuce, sunflower seeds, etc

they wernt very interested at all, a few pecks at it thats all, ive read all over the internet that they are suppose to eat it all up in a hurry? Is this because they are new?

also -- are chickens suppose to have smaller top beaks than bottom?
